An Open Letter to Texas Freelance CSRs from President David Ross:
On November 29th, the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT) sent an open letter to the legal community promoting their Electronic Recording (ER) services. They tout their “Certified Electronic Reporters” as being a solution both to the shortage of reporters in our state as well as a cost-saving measure for attorneys. Additionally, AAERT has filed two bills for consideration in the upcoming legislative session to allow ER to be used in grand jury proceedings. While their current legislative efforts are concentrated on the courtroom, AAERT is making inroads into our profession as a whole, and it’s a threat we cannot allow to go unaddressed.
Here is the letter AAERT sent out yesterday. There are many issues facing Texas Freelancers, and TEXDRA remains committed to advocating for you on all fronts. However, we can’t do this alone. It’s going to take all of us coming together to be victorious. If you’ve already joined us, we thank you and ask you to please consider donating funds to help us financially combat this advancing threat. If you’re not a member, we’d ask you to join us today as we fight for each and every one of us.
Please join TEXDRA and advocate for your profession and your peers today. Thank you.
