Greetings: It has been a while since our last update. We have been patiently awaiting some action by the Supreme Court. As you know, the JBCC has forwarded to the Supreme Court their recommendations for the Court Reporters’ Code of Ethics. We had expected a fairly quick decision from the Supreme Court; however, as is evident, that did not occur. The new ethics rules have been on the Supreme Court’s agenda on three separate occasions. For a variety of reasons, our particular item was not taken up. The good news is that the matter is on the agenda for Tuesday, January 23. Hopefully, the Court will provide us a positive outcome at that time. The moment we learn anything, we will notify you. Much of TEXDRA’s actions moving forward will be determined by what the Supreme Court ultimately decides regarding the ethics proposal. Consequently, in consult with our attorney, we have made a strategic decision to hold off on any efforts to modernize the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure until after the Supreme Court has acted on the ethics rules. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
